Bring your own number to Google Voice! Now Gone!

For those of you that don’t know, Google Voice is a fantastic Google service that offers its users free text messaging, call forwarding, Voicemail transcription and a great user interface to use it (especially on Android phones).  One of the drawbacks to using all of these services was to inform everyone to start using your Google number and not your traditional cell phone number, which you’ve probably had for years. Beginning last night for select Google Voice users and soon rolling out to others and new users, you’ll have the option of porting your number over to Google Voice so you won’t have to change your number(s) to enjoy all of the services. I have been using Google Voice for over a year now, and i’d never be able to go back to using “just” a normal cell phone number again.Since last night Google has removed the option and has made a comment in regards to it as it seems they are just testing this option but it should be up and running again in the near future!

“We’re continually testing new features to enhance the user experience. For a limited amount of time, we’re making the Google Voice number porting process available to users. We don’t have any additional details to share at this time, but plan to offer this feature to all users in the near future.”
