We all know by now Android has a sweet tooth, with their OS having tastier code names with each new version. Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb, now Ice Cream will be their newest treat to be launched this summer. Google’s approach to marketing new Android OS versions is certainly fun!
When Sony Ericsson unveiled the new Xperia Arc last week, it was discovered on the show floor at CES running Android Version 2.4 (Ice Cream?) Even though the official Sony Ericsson Product Blog states this was due to a misconfiguration, we can still expect Android Ice Cream version by this June or July. The Arc will definitely be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread as posted on the Sony Ericsson site.
Google is expected to announce Android Ice Cream this May at their IO Conference in San Francisco. They have already stated they will curb the rate at which new versions of Android OS are developed, and focus on Gingerbread and Honeycomb. Several experts consulted at CES feel Honeycomb (official tablet OS) is unlikely to be installed on smartphones, but rather just stick to tablets.
We will just have to wait for Google to make all these speculations official. In the meantime, we are still waiting for Gingerbread to be updated to Nexus One owners. That would be a date worth hearing from Google and T-Mobile.
Would you like one scoop, or two?
