At CES, Motorola’s best in show for smartphones definitely went to the Atrix 4G. It brings a lot to the table, and has some really innovative features as well. One of those big features is an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core chipset. One of the built-in exhibits of the Tegra 2 is the ability to shoot hi-def 1080p video. Unfortunately, this beast of a smartphone is not going to have that ability from the outset. Instead, according to Motorola’s own spec site, there will be an update after launch that will unlock the 1080p encoding powers of this phone.
There are lots of other great features to this phone though! Don’t be too discouraged by the lack of 1080p recording at launch:
- Tegra 2 dual core 1 GHz chipset
- Launches with Android 2.2 Froyo, but with an update to 2.3 Gingerbread in the works
- 1080p video decoding (yes, you can watch your hi-def even if you can’t record it)
- Dual cameras (5 and 2 MP) with LED flash for the rear
- 16 GB built-in storage
- 4 inch screen with 960 x 540 resolution
- Use of smartdocks, to be a multimedia powerhouse or a productivity workhorse on the go
- Built-in fingerprint reader (!)
Also, it does appear to be launching on AT&T perhaps as early as February 13th.
