See that 2.4 under Android-Version in the picture of the Samsung Nexus S? That is the next version of the Android OS after Gingerbread, Android 2.3. It is not Honeycomb, Android 3.0, which leaves me to believe it is not Ice Cream because that would be Android 3.1 or later if Google sticks to their naming convention. So, it must be an iteration of Gingerbread, which will probably bring in features that Google wanted to put into Gingerbread, but didn’t have it ready for the release of the 2.3 version.
It is pretty exciting though. Google has yet to announce another iteration of Android between 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 3.0 (Honeycomb), this could be it! Android 2.4 has already be featured on the next Sony Xperia Prototype and this is further proof that it does indeed exist. The fact that is featured on the Nexus S, which is a Google-branded phone, shows that there is a greater possibility in this being a legitimate Android OS version.
Mobile World Congress is coming up soon, maybe we’ll see this version of the Nexus S there.
Watch the video to see the Nexus S with Android 2.4 for yourself. It doesn’t really show much of the user interface or new features that make it a new iteration of the Android OS, but it’s there!
