There’s an accusation floating around that the Notion Ink Adam tablet based its custom email app on open-source K-9 Mail, but no credit was given to original developers. Coder Jesse Vincent discovered his K-9 Mail code being used for Adam’s 3-pane email system as the foundation, and there was no mention of his work in the app’s “About Box.”
Notion Ink’s email app has been scaled down to suit Eden’s UI start-up and multitasking system. If the underlying base code proves to be K-9’s software, then surely a mention to Jesse Vincent would be appropriate. There’s uncertainty about the outcome of this, if any, due to a clause in the Apache2 License that states any derivative works must contain, “all copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices from the Source form of the work.”
Jesse Vincent asserts he would be happy to work together with Notion Ink as long as they put back the credit in the About Box. At this time Notion Ink’s response is unknown. I can only hope he will receive the courtesy of a speedy reply.
