Android Tablets in Big Trouble??

With all the coverage and talk about all the new Android tablets that are looming, many Android enthusiast and everyday consumers alike are awaiting the arrival of these devices. Most will come out with the updated version 3.0 of the Android, dubbed “Honeycomb.” These devices are preparing for battle with the iPad. Can they win against this monstrous Apple device?… Well, wait a second, there is one more contender for the tablet market dominance: the HP Touchpad, which was revealed yesterday.

Android tablets may be in trouble before they even reach the shelves. The HP Touchpad has some awesome specs that can rival any tablet that’s out or on the way, like: 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 screen, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.4 GHz processor.

But of course this isn’t the reason that people are saying  Android’s upcoming devices may be threatened. HP has quite a record with retail distribution. Every major electronic store that carries anything to do with computers, such as Wal-mart, Target or Bestbuy, has tons of HP products on its shelves already; 8% of the shelf space to be exact! So HP is already in front of most consumers as they shop the aisles, also even though HP (Palm) was tied for dead last in smartphone market share that surely doesn’t affect its tablet potential. Consider that a tablet is more of a PC and its market share is not as affected by cell phone carriers.

I think we will all be watching and waiting to see just how all of this pans out…will Android tablets fall by the wayside to HP’s ability to cover shelf space or will tablets like the Motorola Xoom, and LG G-Slate conquer all? This will be a fun fight to watch.
