Dropcam is an internet security camera company. Their cameras are WiFi-enabled so you can check on them on the go. You can set one up to watch the baby in the nursery, and you can check in on your Android. You can have one looking over the doors to your house, and check in while on vacation. You can even have as many cameras in your account as you need, able to watch all of them with just a few clicks (or pokes on Android). The cameras are so smart that they record “events” when things have changed from their usual. Each event will have its own thumbnail in viewing the video stream so that you can check on them quickly and easily.
Dropcam is quick and easy to set up, and now it is even more accessible through Android. Each camera costs about $200, but with that you also get the Dropcam service. All video from your Dropcams is available online or from your mobile for 30 days after it was shot.
With the Dropcam Android app, you can access archived footage within the 30 day time period, as well as access live streams over 3G, 4G, and WiFi. In addition, you can get notifications of “events.” All in all, it looks pretty cool, quick, and fairly inexpensive.
