Google; Honeycomb is Our Most Significant Platform Update Yet; Wicked Cool Icon!

February 2rd is when Google will give us a huge taste of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. What do you think of the Blue Bee Icon? I just love it!

“You’re invited to an Android event at Google headquarters in Mountain View on Wednesday, February 2. Please join us for an in-depth look at Honeycomb, Android ecosystem news and hands-on demos.”

Matias Duarte, is the man responsible for the new user interface on Andriod 3.0, and states, “We need to think of Android as an experience 24/7, throughout the day. What that means is that you are doing a lot more and you are doing a lot more for longer periods of time.”

One nice change in Honeycomb, switching between running apps is no longer done by long-pressing the home button, and the apps appear in the center of the display. Now, you use the menu/app switcher button, and running apps come up from the bottom of the display with a neat effect.

Android 3.0 Honeycomb will be very important for the advancement of tablets. Duarte said Honeycomb is specifically for tablets, but will be designed to run on a variety of devices including smartphones, and refrigerators.

We’ll give you a detailed look at the Android Event happenings as soon as they are available.
