Say it ain't so! XOOM confirmed to cost $799!

While the rumors were circulating I was one of the many with my fingers crossed that it wasn’t true. The XOOM tablet, the first Android tablet with 3.0 Honeycomb pre-loaded, will cost a jaw-dropping $799 according to our friends over at Droid-Life. Now I’m not blind to the fact that phones seem SO much cheaper than they actually are because of subsidization, but this still stings. Add on to the fact that you ALSO supposedly have to pay for at least one month of 3g coverage to unlock the Wi-Fi and it just angers you more. This tablet has been described by most to be the “Nexus of Tablets”, but if this is true it scares me. Back before Verizon did a complete 180 and stopped with hardware limitations right before the original Motorola Droid came out and the “Droid Does” campaign ran them into fanboy stardom, they used to lock hardware features on previous smartphones quite often. I’m honestly shocked that Google would be ok with this. Their have been rumors of the Wi-Fi only devices coming out very soon, but that still doesn’t soften the blow of this news because it’s probably not going to be that much of a price difference. Anyone out there ok with this price and buying one? Best Buy will start taking pre-orders on the 17th if you have the cash. Let us know in the comments… For shame Google/Verizon/Motorola… for shame.
