We’ve been hearing about 3D devices on almost a daily basis lately. Now according to source LetsGoDigital, Sharp Electronics has just unveiled the “world’s first” 3D Android smartphone, the Sharp Galapagos 3D, featuring a 3.8-inch LCD screen that supports 3D graphics.
The Sharp 3D graphics are said to be the same used for the Nintendo 3DS handheld. It’s hard to imagine what the smartphone “3D” is really going to look like. According to the science of technology, the screen will use a “parallax barrier” which makes each eye see a slightly difference image, which then creates a stereoscopic display, called “autostereoscopy,” perceived 3D.
Available this month, the Sharp Galapagos 3D will enter the retail market in Japan with telecommunications company Softbank, and be known as the Softbank 003SH. It will feature Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), a 9.6 megapixel camera, 720p HD-video recording capabilities, 400 MB internal memory, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It will come in colors red, black, or white. If you’re a gamer, the Galapagos comes with pre-installed games including Resident Evil: Biohazard Degeneration, Ghosts’ n Goblins: Gold Knights, Mega Man, and also features a few pre-installed movies.
We’ll see how this 3D trend works out in the rest of the world, but this Japanese release sounds like it has some good potential, minus the fact that it’s only coming ready with Froyo.
