The tablet market seems to be some kind of battlefield with release of new ones. Sony being one of the major manufacturer for consumer electronics has not stepped into this arena yet. According to our friends over at Endgadget, this might change and the claims from them are that this information is from “two highly trusted and independent sources.”
According to these trusted and independent sources, Sony are planning to begin with a 9.4-inch tablet which will be powered by Android OS 3.0 and is codenamed as “S1”. Sony seems to be busy trying to customize its Honeycomb UI to compete with Apple’s iPad. Sony’s on demand service, Qriorcity, for music, videos, games and ebooks will be the key ingredient in the making of the tablet. The tablet will feature full Playstation integration and also packs a Bravia Media Remote and pre-installed Sony PS1 games.
The Sony S1 does have design lines similar to Notion Ink’s Adam with the wrap concept. Notion Ink’s Adam has the design to prevent any wrist fatigue when holding it for a long period. The area where it has the wrap design, there will be a battery and a Tegra 2 processor. The tablet also features front and rear facing cameras, an IR port, a USB-A port and there might a Qriocity button. As far as the colour scheme of the device is concerned, it will sport a black high gloss at the front with a contrasting matte silver for the back.
Prices of the WiFi-only version would be $599 which is almost $100 more than that of iPad. The device is planned to go on sale this September. Surprisingly, there was no prototype displayed or announced at the MWC. The only thing we have is a rough sketch of the device and hoping that this tablet comes to life soon.
