Fulton Innovation, a company that we will be hearing a lot of soon, is bringing a wireless Qi (pronounced chee) branded charging back and Verizon-labeled charging pad to the LG Revolution. Wireless charging is the next step in seamlessly integrating our devices into our lives. It has now become more than just an innovation seen at events like Mobile World Congress. Available in the next month or two, this will become a real accessory, actually available for your Revolution (now the name makes sense).
Now this seems like a great idea, and Samsung has a similar device coming soon, but I do have one question. How do you use your phone while it is on the charger? And for someone like me, who never puts down his device, this is a real issue. There are plenty of times when I have been in the middle of playing a game or on a call and I hear that all too familiar notification: please connect to charger.
Sure it is easy to put it down, but as this technology becomes more popular, charging ports are going to become a thing of the past. So what will you do then? Will all of the surfaces you lay your phone on eventually be inductive so you’re always getting some juice? Fulton Innovation is also working on this but we’ve got to start somewhere and it’s better here than inductive electric blankets.
So what will the pricing be for the back and charging pad? No official word but I would guess in the 70-100 dollar range. I’d also bet that Samsung isn’t the only manufacture to be putting out the inductive backs that allow the wireless charging magic to begin. So what do you think, will this be the start of a better way to charge our devices or something bigger, like the introduction of personal microwave ovens? Let us know in the comments below.
