AT&T – Want Access To The New Amazon App Store?

If you have AT&T and you are one of the millions or tried to get Angry Birds Rio or one of many other games from the new Amazon App Store this week, then you already know that the Amazon App Store does not support AT&T since they block installation of all third-party apps (non-Android Market).

I was a bit unhappy when I logged on to Amazon Tuesday to get my hands on Angry Birds Rio for free, and to my knowledge I found out that I couldn’t install any app that was in the Amazon App store, even though I only tried like 5. Not many people on AT&T like the idea that AT&T customers can not install third-party .APK (Android Package File) files, unless you own an iPhone apparently. Even people who have a few tricks up their sleeve to get around that little problem, were told they simply could not use the application.

If you go to the app store and click on a game, the download restrictions read, “AT&T is working on enabling purchases from the Amazon Appstore in the near future” as one of the details. Lucky for us, AT&T is working on a solution that would allow support for the Amazon App store, you can head over to appstoreaccess.com/ where you can take just a few seconds to sign up to be notified of future developments on the issue. The only phone listed on the site is the HTC Aria, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Atrix 4G, and Samsung Captivate (which I have! : D), and an other option. That could mean that those will be the first ones to get the update, or the only ones to get the update, hopefully the second option.

Amazon offers a new free game every 24 hours since the opening on Tuesday, the first game was Angry Birds Rio, that I could not install because it blocked the download which was disappointing. Angry Birds Rio is still free in the Amazon App Store for a limited time, but today’s free game, that was originally $4.99 and not a game at all, is a music application called Shazam. The app allows you to tag a song, which it uses the phones microphone to identify the song that’s currently playing, it displays the song title, album, genre, label, and tells you when and where you tagged the song. So basically it sounds and looks like a remake version of Soundhound.

So hopefully the update will come sooner than later, so no one misses out on the best games that show up on the free spot.
