Google TV Doesn’t Draw at Game Developers Conference

The Game Developers Conference is going on right now in San Fransisco’s Moscone Center, and as expected Google has a rather large presence at the event. Throngs and crowds and lines have been seen for conferences on the search giant’s phones and tablets, but less impressive were the numbers for their internet-connected television hardware, Google TV.

Google TV Presentation Not of Interest to Game Developers

Monday afternoon’s session, aimed at the Google TV hardware, was reported by the Los Angeles Times to be sparsely attended and met with poor reviews from developers. Andres Ferrate and Ian Ni-Lewis, the presenters for Google were assaulted with questions on whether anyone would want to play web-based games on the platform.

Google Says Plenty of Potential Growth for Google TV

Ferrate compared the potential growth opportunities to the explosion seen in mobile gaming with a base in casual games on the “Smart TV’s”. With their success in the mobile market, it is safe to assume most of their resources are focused there, and with the lack of interest in development on the Google TV, Google must do something in the future to generate interest.
