Qualcomm Shows off GPU Performance of new Dual Core Snapdragon

Qualcomm Adreno 220 GPU Struts its Stuff

Qualcomm had a very successful 2010 and their chipsets were featured in everything from the Google Nexus One to the T-Mobile myTouch 4G. They are coming late to the dual core arena with their MSM8x60 SoC (system on a chip), better know as the dual core Snapdragon.

But they apparently have a trick or two up their sleeve. Qualcomm’s Graphics Product Manager Brent Sammons stated that their new Adreno 220 graphics processor “offers twice the performance of the GPU in other leading dual core ARM9-based chips.”

Down in the Desert, the Qualcom Adreno 220 GPU Keeps it Real

They have been showing off a graphics demo of a new game, Desert Winds, which showcases what their new SoC can do and it is impressive. The Adreno 220 improves the game “with more 3D effects, smoother stereoscopic HD gaming, market-leading performance, and industry leading power-efficient 3D graphics.”

We should see the first device to support the new dual core Snapdragon at CTIA later this month. HTC revealed that the new processor will be powering their flagship Pyramid Android smartphone. The Snapdragon continues to improve with each iteration and will surely challenge Nvidia and Texas Instruments when it’s released.
