Rumor: Root Your Moto Xoom, No 4G Upgrade for You

Will the Motorola XOOM be ineligible for the 4G upgrade if it is rooted?

So, last week, I wrote an article on the pros and cons of purchasing a Motorola XOOM tablet. Now, over at the Motorola Owners’ Forum, one user brought up the question: Will the Motorola XOOM be ineligible for the 4G upgrade if it is rooted? As of right now, the correct answer to that question is “If your Motorola Xoom is rooted it will not be ugraded by Motorola,” according to user DansDroid, and this is a huge negative to any of you looking to root your Motorola XOOM. Now, while this user is not employed by Motorola, the forums manager Matt hasn’t said anything that proves otherwise. Apparently he doesn’t know how Motorola will be handling the situation just yet.

Possibility that rooted XOOM users will not get upgrade through Motorola

So there is the possibility that rooted users will not get any sort of upgrade through Motorola, and if this does hold out to be true, how does Moto expect to keep any customers? They’d just be breaking their promise to the people who bought the XOOM because of their personal beliefs towards rooting. Apparently they don’t get that rooting is legal and it doesn’t always harm the device. But, it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out closer to when the Motorola XOOMs are able to get their 4G upgrade.

Looks like all the good Motorola news yesterday has come to an end today. Do you guys think this is something that would actually happen?  Would you still root your Motorola Xoom if you knew for sure they wouldn’t upgrade you to 4G?
