How does New Apple iPad 2 Compare to its Android Tablet Competition?
Today, the new Apple iPad 2 was announced, and with it came numerous upgrades that makes it fall right in line with the Motorola XOOM and other announced-but-not-released Android tablets (LG G-Slate, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, etc).
The folks over at Droid Life have already put together a chart comparing these 4 tablets. (Click the image to see a larger version.)
The major changes to the iPad are its size, it’s now 8.8mm thick which is a reduction of 33%. More changes include the dual core A5 processor that now powers it, it gets both front and rear cameras, and the availability of the new Smart Covers.
Here’s a Surprise: Apple iPad 2 Less Expensive than Motorola Xoom
One of the major advantages the iPad has over the XOOM is the price tag. Apple is still offering 6 different configurations and 5 of them are cheaper than Motorola’s tablet. And since the prices for the other two tablets mentioned haven’t been released, we can’t compare those yet.
Android Beats Apple, Tablets or Phones
But, Android OS 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets have the openness of Android behind them. So they’re a lot more customizable and users can tinker with them a lot more. There are more options to how people want their device to work and look and feel compared to the iPad. Also, the new notification system on Honeycomb is probably one of the best.
But are these upgrades enough to entice more customers? Or will one or more of these Android tablets be in a position to steal the spotlight from Apple? Tell us what you think. Which will prevail, Android Honeycomb tablets or the Apple iPad 2?
