Sony Ericsson Launches its own App Channel on Market
As most of us know, when we open up the Android Market we have Apps, Games, and your carrier’s app channels right under the featured scrolling apps. Well Sony Ericsson is now the first manufacturer to distribute their own channel in place of the carrier channel in the Market. This new update is available to “most” Sony Ericsson phones in the US, but nothing has really been said if the update is being pushed out to other countries.
Now you’ll notice the “My Apps” button is no longer visible; where did it go? The “My Apps” button has relocated to where you’ll find it on most Android handsets: press the menu key on your phone and there it is.
Sony Ericsson Explains Why An SE Channel
In their blog post, Sony Erricsson made things more clear and has given us a brief explanation for why they created their own Market channel:
– Provide recommendations to help you find the best games & apps that enhance your Sony Ericsson ‘most entertaining’ experience.
– Provide a way to easily find original apps from Sony Ericsson such as Timescape plugins etc.
– From time to time offer exclusive games & apps only available in this channel.
– Help our developer partners promote their apps & games giving them a highlighted market space to our consumers.
Manufacturers’ Market Channels: Is this a Trend?
Is this a sneak peak at a possible incoming wave of manufacturer app channels? Only time will tell. But for now Sony Ericsson customers can have access to their own exclusive apps channel.
