Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo Delayed, Play, Arc Limited Supply: Tsunami is Issue

It seems the initial earthquake in Japan caused more than a nuclear power plant leak. Recent announcements from Sony state that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo wide release will be delayed til at least early quarter 3 because of supply chain disruptions. This could be bad news for Sony Ericsson  as they’re hoping the new Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) Xperia lineup will be better than the first. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and Xperia Arc will be in short supply due to the damage Japan has received from natural disasters. Then again, perhaps the supply shortage will cause a spike in demand to those hoping for a new gaming device.

More news to follow when Sony Ericsson releases their quarterly results later this month.

As Sony Ericsson continues to assess the impact of the situation in Japan on its business, we have communicated to our operator customers and distributors that some volume of Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY and Xperia neo phones has been affected. Xperia neo has already been introduced to the marketplace in limited quantities. However, due to supply chain disruptions resulting from the situation in Japan, we have shifted the timing of Xperia neo’s broader launch and it is now planned for early Q3.

We will address this topic at the time of our Q1 financial results announcement call that is scheduled for April 19, 2011.
