Sony hops on the Honeycomb tablet bandwagon in a big way

Sony is one of those companies that is beginning to benefit from using Android in terms of market share and seems to have jumped aboard the Android train for the long haul. Enter the S1 and S2 Honeycomb tablets that have shown up on the scene this week. What we know about the tablets thus far is that the Sony S1 will sport a 9.4 inch screen and a Tegra 2 chip-set. The connection will be 3G/Wifi and it will be Bluetooth enabled. The tablet will all support the now infamous Qriocity music and video service. The S2 will have a 5.5 inch dual screen “clamshell” form factor with similar specifications of the larger S1. Most people are comparing this to the Kyocera Echo and im thinking this is actually good news for that device because more dual screen development couldn’t be all together bad for the Echo. All of this powered by the optimized version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Sony is good news for Android gaming

The tablets will join the Xperia Play Sony Ericsson handset in the ranks of Playstation certified devices. This means they will get Playstation One (PSX) titles and the forthcoming Playstation suite. The dual screen design of the S2 will make it ideal for emulated PS One titles and other Android games. Yes my friends these are exciting revelations from the Sony camp. With the Tegra 2 chipset under the hood Android gaming is going to take a leap with these devices leading the way. I personally don’t expect a release for these any time before Xperia Play gets a decent foothold and the question that really comes to mind for me is pricing.
