This year has been pretty nice for Canadian carriers, in terms of releasing Android phones. All companies, with probably the exception of Public Mobile (Cheap prepaid kind of plans/contracts) has an Android phone(s) in their line-up. It’s not just iPhone and Blackberry in Canada anymore.

This Time it’s the LG Optimus 3G

This time Telus is now adding the LG Optimus 3G. A medium-class phone, with almost similar design and specs to the previously released Optimus One.

Specs

The phone will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) out of the box, with no details of an upgrade to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) or soon to be Android 2.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It was a 3.2″ capacitive-touchscreen with a 320×480 display.  It has the ability to create a WiFi hotspot for up to 5 devices. The 3.2 mega pixel camera takes decent photos and videos that aren’t HD. The device comes with a 2GB microSD card, which is upgradeable to support up to 32GB.

Where it Takes a Hit

Here is where this phone takes a hit. Although the phone is $0 for a contract at Telus, the no-contract  price is $529.99. You can get phones like the HTC Desire (Z, HD), Nexus S, and the HTC Incredible S and many other high-end phones for cheaper or close to the same price. The devices just stated are high-end compared to this Optimus 3G, which is pretty much a entry-medium level phone. We don’t know what LG or Telus were thinking about this. The LG Optimus One  is selling for $199.99 outright and Koodo (a Telus company) is the Optimus One outright for $150.
