So I thought I’d post a little warning to the folks who visit us here at ACS on some malicious apps that are going around and commend Google and Lookout Mobile on swift and decisive action in keeping our handsets safe. I’m sure most of our users are smart enough to carefully consider what they put on their phones, however there are a select few who are not privy to this knowledge. I want you guys to be on the lookout (pun intended) for the soft porn apps that the market is flooded with. If you don’t have lookout mobile install it immediately. Lookout mobile saved me the cost of an EVO 4G that was stolen from me. The people who took it were not smart enough not to use the phone on WiFi networks and Lookout found my phone. Needless to say it was recovered and returned to me so there are more than one reason to install Lookout. It has been tested and has out performed all the other Anti-Virus and malicious software removal tools currently available on Android. It was Lookout who detected the following malicious apps and reported them to Google:

– Sexy Girls: Hot Japanese
– Sexy Legs
– HOT Girls 4
– Beauty Breasts
– Sex Sound
– Sex Sound: Japanese
– HOT Girls 1
– HOT Girls 2
– HOT Girls 3
Mango Studio
– Floating Image Free
– System Monitor
– Super StopWatch and Timer
– System Info Manager
E.T. Team
– Call End Vibrate
BeeGoo
– Quick Photo Grid
– Delete Contacts
– Quick Uninstaller
– Contact Master
– Brightness Settings
– Volume Manager
– Super Photo Enhance
– Super Color Flashlight
– Paint Master
You will not and I repeat will not find these apps on the Android Market as Google has already removed them thanks to the good folks at Lookout. Here are a few pointers from the good folks at Lookout on how to keep the garbage off your phone.

Only download apps from trusted sources, such as reputable app markets. Remember to look at the developer name, reviews, and star ratings.
Always check the permissions an app requests. Use common sense to ensure that the permissions an app requests match the features the app provides.
Be alert for unusual behavior on your phone. This behavior could be a sign that your phone is infected. These behaviors may include unusual SMS or network activity.
Download a mobile security app for your phone that scans every app you download to ensure it’s safe. Lookout users automatically receive protection against this Trojan.

Remember how much dough you dropped on that shiny new smartphone, well protect your investment. Keep checking here if this list grows I’ll report it immediately. Google will likely begin automatically removing these from your phones but if your one of the people who have these installed remove them immediately. Not to sound like a broken record but keep an eye on the permissions you give apps you install. Its your first line of defense.
