As companies from the same country, LG and Samsung have long been at “war” with each other, and have been competing in the same markets. I would say LG has been mostly a follower of Samsung, but I notice more and more how they want to break out from that “strategy” and start doing their own things.
One such example is the AH-IPS display, which is supposed to arrive in this LU6200 phone soon, and if it’s anything like it appears to be on paper, it should easily be one of the best displays on the market, perhaps (gasp) even better than the Super AMOLED Plus display from Samsung.
They’ve actually won a competition when being pitted against the SAMOLED+. It turns out that they got a score of 0.012 vs 0.037 of Samsung in color accuracy (smaller is better), and it’s even twice as battery efficient as the SAMOLED+. Those seem like some big pluses to me, but that’s not all. Seeing how the IPS displays from LG were already great (think iPhone 4 and iPad), this Advanced High-Performance IPS display should be significantly better in image quality, too, at least compared to other LCD’s out there.
Another big feature that it will have over SAMOLED+ is the True HD 1280×720 resolution, which should look very crisp on the 4.5″ display that’s coming with the LG LU6200. Of course, Samsung will update their phones to that resolution or the 16:10 12800×800 one soon, too (and I prefer this one). And we’ve already seen it in the Galaxy Note.
Other features that this phone will have are the dual core 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon chip, up to 75 Mbps LTE connectivity, 1 GB of RAM, 1830 mAh battery, 8 MP rear camera with 1080p video recording, and 1.3 MP front-facing camera. It will also have 123 grams, and be 10.5 mm slim (which is actually a bit thick, but that’s probably because of the LTE chip).
The phone will probably appear by the end of the year in Europe and USA, but we might hear more about it in the coming days or weeks. Would you get this over the Galaxy S II?
