The names RAZR and Droid hold major weight when it comes to mobile phones both are iconic brands that shifted the industry in a big way. With Motorola’s introduction of the Droid RAZR today they intend to once again change the mobile landscape, lets hope the new super phone lives up to its namesakes. The new phone makes quite a first impression coming in at 7.1mm it is definitely razor-thin and takes the title for the world’s thinnest smartphone from its closest competitor the Galaxy S II which comes it at 8.2mm. From there your attention will be on both the attractive Kevlar coated backing and the impressive 4.3″ qHD Super AMOLED display. Motorola came to challenge the throne on this one read on to see if has what it takes…
There’s no doubt the Droid RAZR is one of if not the most attractive phones to date, but its tough too and under the Splash Guarded full Gorilla Glass front and in between its stainless steel core this device is packing some heat in the specs department. To start it comes with a dual core TI OMAP 4430 clocked at the same 1.2Ghz that new Nexus is rumored to have, 1GB of memory, and the speed of Verizon’s 4G LTE Network. Along with a compliment of cameras the rear being a 8MP shooter with full 1080p video recording and a new front facing camera that supports HD video chat over 4G LTE/ 3G/ or Wi-Fi.
Bringing all that power together is Android 2.3.5 which may not sound so great with IceCreamSandwichAndroid 4.0 in the near future. However it will see that update soon and ships with a new compliment of Motorola’s own software additions making the Droid RAZR a media force worthy of its beautiful display. With the pre-installed MotoCast app you can stream music, movies, and photos directly from your computer while on the go giving you more space to work with on the device. Another addition is the Motorola Smart Actions app that allows you to set different settings for work and home from Wi-fi to the ringer that are automatically changed when you arrive.

Battery life has been a major issue with all Verizon LTE devices so far but Motorola has seemingly rectified the issue with new smart actions that detect when battery life is getting low and adjust network and display properties to preserve battery life. The estimated times of over 12 hours of talk and 8 hours of video playback are the best of any LTE device so hopefully the LTE battery woes are a thing of the past.
Word is still out on whether the Droid RAZR will dethrone the Galaxy S II, and if it can stand up to the upcoming Galaxy Nexus. One thing for sure though it is one hell of a device and pre-orders start on October 27th.
Hands On
