I wrote about this tablet back in January when I lamented about the dismal showing Android devices made this year at CES. At CES it was known as the Excite X10 and now, just like back then, this is a wildly average 10″ tablet that will actually sell for more than an iPad.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a dead sexy tablet on the outside. That aluminum case with it’s rounded corners and smooth lines might be one of the best looking Android tablets to come along, but I just can’t get over the price.
- Android 3.2 Honeycomb – Upgrade to Android 4.0

- Corning Gorilla Glass 1
- 1.2 GHz OMAP 4430 dual core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB or 32GB of internal storage
- 5MP rear, 2MP front cameras
- WiFi and Bluetooth
- Micro USB, Micro HDMI ports
After two additional months to work on this tablet, Honeycomb is the best that Toshiba can do? An upgrade to Android 4 should have happened for this tablet before a release date was announced. Nearly every other Android OEM announced an ICS tablet at Mobile World Congress this week and every damn one of them will ship with ICS.
Aside from the OS version issues that I have with this tablet, the $529 list price makes this the next in a long line of Android tablet flops. It just doesn’t seem to sink in with some manufacturers. No, I can’t solve the Android tablet success riddle, but I know who can: ASUS.
For $100 less your Transformer Prime comes with ICS, a Tegra 3 AND 32GB of storage. Thin (or thinner) margins might not work for Toshiba, but ASUS seems to be doing just fine.
