Mobile World Congress is fast approaching and leading up to what is the biggest show for mobile devices, we have leaks of a few powerful new Android smartphones. First up we have a new 3D device from LG which is rumored to be named the Optimus 3D 2 in the US. The leak shows a device with a larger and improved display, that should vastly improve on 3D effects and image clarity. The specs are rumored to include an unnamed dual core SoC, along with an upgraded IPS display, in a 9.9mm package. The jury is still not in on 3D mobile devices, but it should fair better than the original with ever more 3D content become available.
The next device should prove even more interesting if not for the specs then for who is the manufacturer. Huawei an OEM most notable for their budget friendly Android devices appears to be changing course for 2012. At CES they showed off a super thin dual core phone rocking a dual core TI OMAP clocked at 1.5 Ghz featuring stock ICS Android 4.0. That device alone would have been enough to at least get them a seat at the table for top of the line devices, but their newest announcement set to take place at MWC does much more and challenges for the throne. In a press invite to their event at the show they mention a new handset that will be the “most powerful smartphone yet”. Sources have stated the new super phone being named the Huawei Ascend D Q, and to feature a quad-core SoC. If they keep with their trend a show a quad-core device sporting a stock ICS Android 4.0 experience than it will be something that all Android fans can look forward to. In terms of tablets they also mention the MediaPad 10, which will be a 10″ variant of the 7″ MediaPad that was launched not too long ago on AT&T.
The newest leak brings about a device that was mentioned at CES and that is the first device to come out of the long-term agreement between Motorola Mobility and Intel. The render shows a lightly skinned version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich featuring the on-screen navigation keys featured on the Galaxy Nexus. I look forward to what the Moto-Intel marriage can bring to the table as the Intel reference Medfield design platform showcased at CES offered a great deal of performance beating the majority of dual core SoC currently available. While it is still up in the air if Intel has conquered their battery life problems if their reference device is any indication they have and are on course to power a number of class leading devices this year. Hopefully, this is an early render though as the exterior of the device is not the most attractive and is noticeably worse than the Moto RAZR which is one of the most attractive Android devices to date.
