The folks over at Pocketnow have uncovered a device that seems to be coming to Verizon with the model no. SCH-i200. A Bluetooth SIG first tipped them off to the model number, with this they then found a benchmark over at GLBenchmark which spilt the beans on the MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 inside, along with Android 4.0.3 on tap too.
We know that the S4 will come to be used in a number of phones this latter half of the year, it also supports LTE – it’s the same chip that HTC put in their AT&T version on the One X for LTE support. The Samsung device looks to have the S4 clocked 1.5 Ghz (a healthy clock speed for a dual-core chip) which seems pretty high-end but then GLBenchmark lists this mysterious model (codenamed Jasper) as having a WVGA screen at 480×800. A resolution that many of us have been using since the Nexus One came out quite some time ago. Which ponders the question of where Verizon is positioning this in their line up.
It’s, of course, unknown whether this will be sold under the all-encompassing Samsung Galaxy branding or something entirely belonging to Verizon. All signals point to this being a mid-range offering from Verizon and Samsung, perhaps something that could boast a long(er) battery life as, we all know that big screens with lots of pixels zap a lot of juice. Something others in the industry don’t seem willing to fix. As always, we’ll know more when this becomes official.
