Apple and Samsung have been at war for the last several years due to numerous patent disputes and Apple claiming that Samsung is stealing their designs. Unfortunately, there’s no sign of it slowing down any time soon, some would say because the late Steve Jobs was so against Android. Now, a U.S. Appeals court has granted Apple the chance to try to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned from the states.
Apple has been given the go-ahead to seek a sales injunction on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, which would see the tablet banned from U.S. stores. The two companies are set to attend settlement talks next week. Apple’s next move could shape whether the settlement talks will succeed or fail.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based smartphone and tablet maker could demand an immediate block on Samsung’s tablet sales. If Apple pressed for a ban, it could signal its move to continue its acrimonious litigation against Samsung. If it holds off, it could mean the company is willing to negotiate on ending the year-long battle.
Patent disputes are a dime a dozen in the technology industry and many agree that there needs to be a whole restructuring of the patent system. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Samsung CEO Gee-Sung Choi are to be at the talks which are set for May 21st and 22nd. The district court ordered for them to possibly settle before the trial which seems rather unlikely to happen.
While designs of Samsung’s devices are similar to say the iPhone or iPad, does that make them blatant copies? It all depends on who you talk to, but the way the tech giant has went after the South Korean company gives off more of a vibe that they’re upset that competition is doing well and want them shut down than anything else. All in all, it’s rather petty if you ask me.
