Tablets. Some big, some small, buy online, or at a store. Some perform well, well priced, or pay an arm and a leg for. Adults tend to be the ones who own a tablet, though anyone who has kids will realize that they want to put their hands all over them. Kids can be a bit rough and of course you don’t want to give up a device that you paid several hundred dollars for to someone who can’t properly string together a sentence.
It seems Archos has been listening and is launching their very own kid friendly tablet that is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Priced at just $129.99 and available now, parents can get their little one/s a tablet without breaking the bank (or their own). Unsurprisingly called the Child Pad, the specs are pretty decent.
- 7 inch 800 x 480 pixel screen
- 1GHZ ARM Cortex A8 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 4GB storage with expandable MicroSD slot
- Wifi (802.11 b/g/n)
- Front facing camera and microphone
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Not bad at all for something that costs $70 less than the Kindle Fire, a popular 7 inch tablet currently on the market. The Child Pad also comes with exclusive Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 content, featuring an online game, pictures, clips, and wallpaper, features a child friendly interface so it can be more easily navigated, has pre-installed apps such as drawing and coloring, and a special version of the AppsLib app store.
Considering the tablet is made for kids, we’d expect there to be a very durable and hard plastic shell with an equally strong screen. As time goes on, tablets are shown to be a great way for kids to learn and become engaged with learning so Archos may be onto something here with what could be a better performing, child centric tablet.
