It seems that the Enyo team from HP’s adopted WebOS will be off to greener pastures of sorts. The Verge has learnt that the Enyo team from HP’s WebOS department is going to work for Google, soon. The entire team isn’t moving over to Google but, sources close to HP have informed The Verge that Matt McNulty – who headed up the division will be leaving along with an as yet undisclosed number of other team members. Nobody knows what the team will be doing at Google let alone why they’ve been recruited but, obviously they’ll be there to do good work, for sure.
This new recruitment could have something to do with Matias Duarte – former head of WebOS experience – who know heads up the UI side of the Android team. It’s clear that Google are ready and more than willing to push HTML5 and this shot in the arm from the Enyo team could work wonders for their HTML5 offense, Google want to make Chrome OS, Android and Chrome Browser to have best-in-class HTML5 capabilities. Having a team that know probably more about HTML5 than anyone else is hardly a bad place to start a big push. Of course, the team could be turned towards improving Android’s User Experience – having influences from such an elegant OS as WebOS certainly couldn’t do any damage.
HP reached out to The Verge to give them the following statement regarding the plan set in motion for Open WebOS and it’s fall 1.0 release:
We’re pleased with the traction Enyo has gained to date and plan to continue its development along with the open source community. The Open webOS project is on schedule and we remain committed to the roadmap announced in January.
