Only a small percentage of Android smartphones currently run Android 4.0 ICS and it’s a lot of work for manufacturers to get their often times many different phones upgraded to the latest. While that may be the case, HTC is doing their best to make it happen. The company released an official and detailed list of all their smartphones which will be getting the delicious upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. They are as follows…
- DROID Incredible 2: To be determined (by the end of August)
- HTC Amaze 4G: May-June
- HTC Desire S: June-July
- HTC Desire HD: July-August
- HTC EVO 3D: June-July
- HTC EVO 4G+: May-June
- HTC EVO Design 4G: June-July
- HTC Incredible S: June-July
- HTC Sensation: March-June
- HTC Sensation 4G: March-June
- HTC Sensation XE: March-June
- HTC Sensation XL: April-June
- HTC Rezound: June-July
- HTC Rhyme: June-July
- HTC Thunderbolt: July-August
- HTC Velocity 4G: March-June
- HTC Vivid: March-June
Now, the EVO Shift 4G, MyTouch 4G, Inspire 4G, Status, and Wildfire S don’t seem to be getting the upgrade to ICS, though they weren’t expected to anyways. Still great news as many users who picked up their phones before Android 4.0 came out, were unsure if they’d eventually get the upgrade. Despite many people still running Gingerbread, HTC is showing that they’re committed to their customers. And with ICS coming to 17 different smartphones, that’s a lot of upgrades.
The whole topic of fragmentation is still under a lot of debate and while there is some truth, manufacturers do seem to be putting in the effort to keep their most recent devices up to date. If you happen to have one of the smartphones that isn’t getting upgraded, maybe it’s time to learn how to root and dramatically improve your device, which, there are plenty of resources out there.
