Admittedly, this type of product might not make it to the US or indeed my doorstep in Europe but, it’s nonetheless something worth looking it. With a low-level of buzz rising around Google TV lately, with Sony and LG bringing Google TV products back to shelves later on the year it appears that the world is looking for more Android on more screens.
It’s not running Google TV, rather it’s running Android 4.0, it’s said to enable easy syncing with other Android devices for streaming of content etc. Not much more is known, which is a shame, for sure. What this might mean for Google’s ever expanding assault on the living room however could be much more. Imagine if Android would come standard on set-top boxes provided by your cable provider? Of course, it’ll more than likely be restricted heavily thanks to the usual antics of American TelCos but, the idea to be able to sync your phone or tablet to your TV and stream a YouTube video or some music without having to have another box to go another box and so on, seems a nifty idea to me.
The box itself is entering testing this year and is working towards a launch at the end of the year. Initially, it’s said to only launch in Japan but, other manufacturers/cable companies may well follow suit if testing is successful.
