Featured: Samsung continues to beef up their ecosystem; acquires mSpot

Samsung continues to build their cloud services, acquiring mobile entertainment services provider mSpot. This Pal Alto company knows a thing or two about getting entertainment on to your mobile devices. mSpot specializes in music, movie, and radio services for Android and has four successful apps listed on the Google Play Store.

Remember last week we reported that Samsung was trying to get into the mobile content consumption business? Samsung knows the future in mobile isn’t all about hardware, it’s the underlying software and ecosystem that’s going to drive and continue to win the market. Creating a full-blown ecosystem overnight could prove to be a daunting task as some have speculated. Samsung took this speculation and turned it up a notch by purchasing an already established ecosystem.

Samsung has also announced that mSpot software will come pre-installed on newly announced mobile devices, quite possibly even the Samsung Galaxy S3. The combination of existing Samsung Hubs and now mSpot’s top class cloud and streaming services, Samsung will have a pretty powerful entertainment offering for their entire product line.

Samsung Electronics Acquires mSpot

Palo Alto, Calif. – May 9, 2012 – Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced today it is acquiring mSpot, Inc., a leading mobile cloud contents service provider based in Palo Alto, California.

The acquisition will provide a cloud entertainment experience of music, video and radio services for users of Samsung devices, while extending mSpot’s cloud and streaming solutions to a broader base of global entertainment fans. The combination will extend mSpot’s top class cloud and streaming services, while further enhancing Samsung’s mobile and tablet device entertainment offerings. The mSpot entertainment services will be a key pre-installed offering on newly announced Samsung mobile devices.
