Featured: The Galaxy Nexus on Verizon Finally gets Android 4.0.4

The Galaxy Nexus on Verizon has had somewhat of a rocky ride living up to its moniker of a “Nexus” device. Whilst being the only device to bring stock Android to Big Red since the Original Motorola Droid its been lagging behind its GSM twin in terms of updates, which received the 4.0.4 update around the beginning of April.

It’s long been said that the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon has struggled to live up to expectations that come with a Nexus device, people expect the latest and greatest straight from Google on these devices – I know I do from my Nexus S. On Verizon’s network however, users – who aren’t willing to run custom ROMS – have been stuck on older versions of Android. CDMA network technology isn’t anywhere as open as GSM – not as open as Google would like for supporting them at least.

At least the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is getting 4.0.4 at all – how many devices on Big Red will even Ice Cream Sandwich at all? – I suppose it’s better late than never. If you’re device hasn’t been greeted with the new update then as always the folks over at XDA have you covered with instructions on how to get the latest helping of Ice Cream Sandwich on your device.
