The Samsung Galaxy S III was recently announced and has been the talk of many circles. With features such as a quad-core processor, 4.8 inch Super AMOLED HD screen, S Voice voice recognition, and pebble like design, it’s shaping up to be one of Samsung’s most successful smartphones yet.
One concern however and with any phone that has a beefy processor and large screen, is the battery life. In recent years, the battery life on Android smartphones has been a bit of concern and wasn’t always the best. Fortunately, with larger batteries that are around the same thickness and better more low power hardware, that’s become less and less of an issue. The Galaxy S III features a 2100mAh battery which, while isn’t massive, allows it to get pretty good battery life.
According to GSMArena who did an endurance test, it stacks up quite well. As far as talk time, it ousted the HTC One S and HTC One V with 10 hours and 20 minutes. Is worth noting that that’s almost 3 hours more than the iPhone 4S. When it came to web browsing, the Galaxy S III didn’t do nearly as well as some other comparable phones, but it still managed to pull in 5 hours and 17 minutes.
Lastly, video playback seemed to be a strong suite with an impressive 10 hours and 1 minute, ousting a slew of other phones and just less than the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. All in all, it was given an endurance rating of 43H which means that if you do an hour of 3G talk time, an hour of web browsing, and an hour of video playback every day, the Samsung Galaxy S III would only need to be charged every 43 hours, nearly once every 2 days.
So as it stands, Android smartphones have really come a long way from the days of the HTC EVO 4G which was quite popular for its known issue keeping a charge. As hardware and batteries begin to improve, we’ll only see this area get better and better. For a detailed look at how the Galaxy S III stacked up against other phones, check out the charts below.
