Turntable.fm is a fun way of listening to and sharing music with your friends. Launched in May 2011, the site grew like wildfire and has thousands upon thousands of users every single day with over 1 Million songs streamed every single day.
How it works is you join or can create a room. Each room has 5 spots for DJs which essentially can queue up songs. Each room is different meaning there’s different styles of music. People who are not DJs then can vote up or vote down a song and if a song gets enough down votes, the chance to play a song automatically goes to the next DJ. For each up vote a DJ gets, they get a point and once you reach so many points, you can then get different avatars.
iPhone users have had the Turntable.fm app since last September and finally the app is available on the Android operating system. The interface is very sleek, smooth, and responsive and the app is free to use, no ads for the time being. This is sure to be a hit with the Android crowd and just happens to be very convenient that they launched this app on a Friday so all the party people can get jamming 🙂
