Over the last few years, consumer’s tensions with mobile carriers has been heating up with higher prices and the removal of unlimited data (except for Sprint and pre-paid providers) in place of a set amount of data each month. Because of this, the popularity of pre-paid carriers has been increasing and launching today, a new company is in town.
Voyager Mobile looks to fight back and offer very affordable monthly talk, text, and data plans available nationwide. Started by a 22 year old student from New York University, John Mardini is making moves and taking names by reselling devices and services from Sprint. The service was supposed to have launched May 15th, but ended up being delayed until now due to what was said to be a malicious network attack.
Fortunately, Voyager Mobile is live and are currently offering two different plans. There’s the America Lite and America Unlimited. With the America Lite plan, you get unlimited talk and text for $19 per month. Great for those who don’t need the Internet. With the America Unlimited plan, you get unlimited talk, text, and Internet for $39 per month. They currently have 10 different devices to choose from, all the way from a traditional flip phone to the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Being that plan prices are so cheap, expect to pay more money up front by having to pay retail for the phone. Also, despite being a nationwide service, it’s currently only available in 22 different states which are mentioned at the very bottom of their site. Either way, the service looks very promising. Sprint has a rather reliable network and combine that with the great pricing, it could be a big win for consumers.
People don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for data, but they often end up having to because of the selection that’s currently on the market. Services like Voyager Mobile shake things up a bit and give a middle finger if you will to the big guys.
