Despite the fact that the first round of Google TV’s were not a huge consumer success, Logitech lost millions, LG Electronics and Google have partnered to launch a new line of TV’s in the United States starting May 21st. LG’s new G2 series plans to change consumers outlook on Google TV with motion control technology, passive 3D technology, a few new interface, and using LG’s own dual core processor.
The G2 series televisions truly differentiate themselves from any other set on the market with their Magic Remote. This motion-control technology mimics the smooth touch and feel of Nintendo’s Wii-remote, supports gestures, has a built-in QWERTY keyboard and supports voice commands. The remote uses infrared to communicate between the front of the television and the remote and sports familiar Google TV buttons as previous vendor remotes have.
The G2 user interface has been completely updated and skinned resembling nothing like previous devices from Logitech or Sony. For a Google TV 2.0 (Honeycomb) device, you can tell LG put a lot of time into heavily customizing the home screen; which gives you instant access to a variety of apps and bookmarks.
According to VentureBeat, LG’s dual core ARM L9 processor makes the Google TV experience like nothing before, noticeably faster. This isn’t surprising as this is the first Google TV device to sport a dual core processor.
LG plans to launch the G2 series TV’s in 47″ and 55″ models. Both shall be available starting May 21st for $1,699 and $2,299 respectively.
