Featured: Pre-Orders Start For Acer Iconia Tab A700, Quad Core Tegra 3, Full 1080p Tablet

Acer is set to launch a new tablet in their Iconia Tab line dubbed the A700. Pre-orders start today and people can expect a nicely powered tablet with a good screen to boot. Quad core tablets, particularly running Android, are starting to become standard. Dual core is more than enough for most people, but the quad core Tegra 3 chip from NVIDIA offers great performance plus great graphics, all rolled into one. Not to mention pricing is good.

Here’s the specs:

  • 10 inch 1920×1200 display with 178 degree viewing angle (the first Android tablet with that high of a resolution)
  • 1.3GHZ quad core Tegra 3 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 5 megapixel rear-facing camera
  • 1 megapixel front-facing camera for video chats
  • 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 2.1, gyroscope, GPS
  • 32GB storage with microSD card slot for support up to 64GB
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 1.47 pounds,0.06 inches thicker than the iPad
  • 9800mAh battery with up to 10.5 hours of video playback

Pretty good specs for a tablet that will run you $449.99, $50 less than the 32GB iPad. It’s worth mentioning that the display is not on par with the iPad which clocks in at 2048×1536, however, possibly one of the closest iPad competitors we’ve seen yet. The Acer Iconia Tab A700 also features Dolby Mobile 3+ technology and 5.1-channel surround sound and an HDMI port for watching on a bigger screen.
