Featured: Remember the flip-phone? Samsung Does

That’s right folks, Samsung is looking to bring back the flip-phone with a new, upcoming phone to be released on China’s Unicom network soon. I think everybody remembers flip-phone designs of old and at the time they were too cool for school. I remember that my very first phone was in fact a Motorola V66 flip-phone and I loved it! It came with pong and every time that I answered the phone I felt like I was opening a Star Trek communicator. That could just be the geek in me, though.

So, Samsung are bringing back the flip-phone with the GT-B9120. The phone’s packing two 3.5-inch screens, both running at 480×800. On the processor side of things it’s running a MSM8260 – which will run at either 1.2 or 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon from Qualcomm, this is no S4 unfortunately as it’s the last generation that featured in the HTC Sensation and Amaze 4G as well as the old HP TouchPad. It’s not the highest of chips but, it’s certainly a capable chip that looks to bring this phone in at the mid-range side of things. There’s also a decent 5MP camera round back with flash along with a fairly good 1.3MP front facing camera. The phone is said to come with 16GB on inbuilt storage – no word on a MicroSD card slot – alongside, unfortunately, Android 2.3 from yesteryear.

There’s no word on whether or not this phone will see a release outside of China, which is less than likely but, it’d be nice to see carriers trying out a new form factor that might well appeal to younger audiences.
