Featured: Verizon could unveil the 5" LG Optimus VU

Remember the LG Optimus VU? It was announced quite a while back as a competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Note, but it seems it’s only getting ready to be launched on Verizon’s network, which seems to want to get as many companies competing with each other for their network as possible. The fact that LG Optimus VU will come with LTE is probably helping, too.

The LG Optimus VU specs are as follows:

  • Chipset: 1.5GHz Dual-Core Processor
  • Display: 5-inch (1024×768) IPS Display
  • Memory: 1GB DDR2
  • Storage: 32 GB
  • Camera: 8MP with AF LED Flash (rear) and 1.3MP (front)
  • OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • Battery: 2,080mAh
  • Dimension (L x W x D): 139.6 x 90.4 x 8.5mm

The display has a bit of an odd ratio, at 4:3, which makes it seem quite large in hand, and might be harder to navigate than Samsung’s Galaxy Note. The processor is a Snapdragon S3, and that’s a bit dated, too. But the biggest complaint I’d have about it is Gingerbread, so I’m hoping they will really change that by the time they release it in US. Otherwise, the hardware might be compelling if it sells at a reasonable price of $100 or less on contract.
