Google started shipping the Nexus 7 last Friday, while few individual retailers beating Google when it came to shipping the pre-orders. However, these retailers sold-out on the first day of shipping. Since then, the Nexus 7 continued to be available via Play Store.
Well, not just the retailers but Google itself has run out of the 16GB Nexus 7 priced at $249. Doing a quick search on Google Play will reveal that the 16GB version is listed as “Coming Soon” while the 8GB will ship in 3-5 days. You can subscribe for future notifications on the device’s availability by entering your email address. Here’s a note by Google on the situation.
“We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. When your device ships you will receive a notification from Google Play with a shipping tracking number.”
Looks like people are really not interested in the 8GB variant of the device. There are no words by Google or ASUS on when the tablet will be back in stock. Most of the major online retailers are out of stock across the country. You might still score one at the nearest brick and mortar store. There are reports coming in that some stores including Best Buy, Staples, etc not really sure but just a quick phone call to either of the stores won’t hurt you.
Google market executives are surely pleased with this uptake of the tablet. Limited availability always pushes the demand of the product to the limits. Apple has been doing this for ages (ask anyone).
