PC Magazine’s Sascha Segan, forever more known as Mr. Obvious, took the low road yesterday and tied Google’s new Glass project to porn production. Now, I’ll admit that porn was one of the first uses that I thought of for Glass project, but I didn’t write it down anywhere.
Not only did Mr. Obvious write it down, he went so far as to talk to actual people in the porn business about all of the possibilities that Project Glass would bring to the world of pornography. One of those that he spoke to via email was Quentin Boyer of Pink Visual, who had this to say about Project Glass:
“The style of porn known as ‘point of view’ (‘POV’ for short) has been a popular type of content for quite a while now. Obviously, a device that allows you to shoot high quality video in a truly hands-free fashion will make shooting POV porn that much easier,”
Duh.
From the very beginning, each and every invention that involved photography or videography has been co-opted by the porn industry to shoot porn stills and videos. The fact that Project Glass will cost the early adopters $1,500 is of no significance to the multi-billion dollar porn industry. These guys see nothing but dollar signs and the porn industry is always among the first to adopt any new technology that offers them a new way to present sex to their customers.
There are all sorts of small video cameras that shoot HD video. You can find the GoPro video camera at your nearest Target for less than $200, and even though it’s waterproof, it won’t be as unobtrusive as Project Glass. Project Glass is small, lightweight and unobtrusive. It has it’s own built in monitor for playback to make sure you got that money shot, and I’m betting that there will even be a version that is, you know, “fluid” resistant.
Steve Jobs famously said that his iOS devices would offer “freedom from porn”, but Google allows soft core adult oriented apps in the Google Play Store. There won’t be any stopping the porn dudes from picking up Project Glass as soon as there as a product on the shelf, and they’ll crank out that POV content faster than you can imagine.
