The Galaxy Note from Samsung was something of an enigma to say the least. Was it a phone, was it a tablet? No, it was Galaxy Note, as Samsung told us as often as they could. The device was quite successful for Samsung and those that bought the Note absolutely swear by it. With the large screen and it’s innovative active stylus delivered an experience like none before it.
The idea of being able to write just like you did with your journals and notebooks of old on the same device you use for e-mail and browsing the web is a big boon for productivity. The device was no slouch in the processing department either with a speedy dual-core Exynos processor and with its massive 5.3″ display packing a 1280×800 resolution which equated to an eye-pleasing 285 ppi. The Galaxy Note is still by 2012’s standards no slouch of a device and it certainly holds its own from a design standpoint as well, being one of the thinnest phones available.
It’s now rumored that a successor to the Galaxy Note, in the form of the Note 2, will be announced at this year’s IFA conference in Berlin held in August, just like the original. Said to be packing a 5.5″ display, a quad-core exynos and the camera is said to jump to 12 megapixels as well. All this comes from the Maeil Korean publication citing the usual “sources familiar with the matter”. It looks like a Galaxy Note 2 could well be released in October of this year, internationally, with the US carriers taking longer to get the device launched. Whether or not a successor to the phone is needed this soon it looks like Samsung is looking to compete with the next iPhone when it’s launched around the same time.
