Minecraft developer Mojang has been sued for patent infringements by a company that holds a reputation for suing other companies over software patents.
Mojang is facing legal issues with Uniloc, a Texas-based firm over some method that checks users whether they are authorized to access the content or not. Mojang is not the only company being sued over this patent, Microsoft, EA, Square Enix have also joined the list legally. (no pun intended)
Minecraft creator “Markus Notch Persson” tweeted earlier confirming the lawsuit and vowing to use his resources to fight the case to the very end. Check out the official tweet below.
“Unfortunately for them, they’re suing us over a software patent. If needed, I will throw piles of money at making sure they don’t get a cent,”
In addition, He also tweeted the following
“Software patents are plain evil. Innovation within software is basically free, and it’s growing incredibly rapid. Patents only slow it down,”
After too many personal attacks, Founder of Uniloc Ric Richardson has come forward to defend his case and issued the following statement.
“patents stop people stealing a technology you invented and letting you have a fair shot at making a living from it”
Minecraft: Pocket Edition is available for Android through Google Play. Its counterpart on Xbox 360 holds the record for most first day sales on XBLA.
