We’re again presented with what Nevosoft seem to do best – a unique storyline with a unique character set. Read on to find out why Magic Academy 2 is not only worth playing if you completed the first game but also worth playing in its own rite.
Description: Magic Academy 2 puts you in charge of finding a missing treatise – an important tome to hold information on a terrible demand – to make sure that it doesn’t full in to the wrong hands. It is in the Tirisfal Fortress that you must solve this mystery. If the treatise does fall into the wrong hands then there could be horrific consequences. You must investigate the disappearance of the treatise on Light and Darkness and discover who has been tempted by its evil power in order to prevent the coming of the demand and save the world. How It Works: Whilst playing Magic Academy 2 you assume the role of Irene. You’ve come to the Fortress in order to submit your letter of recommendation to the Council. However, upon your arrival you discover that not everything is right at the fortress and that the Treatise of Light and Darkness has gone missing. You’re told that the book was seen in the hands of somebody wearing a council cloak and from there your investigation starts. The game itself plays through like many other Nevosoft games before it. This time around though, are some twists to help you on your way.
You’re given the task of finding objects in a given area just like before however, things get a little trickier with the added step of having to look behind doors and move furniture. Also added, is the ability to drag items to one another in order to further your investigation. One feature that is particularly helpful is the ability to pinch and zoom. Allowing you to not only admire the artwork better but also get a better look at the play area.
Whilst playing through the varying levels of Magic Academy 2 you’ll be greeted with puzzles and spells as well, which will have you concentrate on a sequence but, be careful as they get really quite tricky the further you get in the game. If at any point you get stuck on a level the question mark in the corner fills up in the corner, enabling you to reveal a hidden object each time it’s full.
Opinion: I had played and reviewed the first game from Nevosoft and I have to say that I was impressed. As someone who grew up with alsorts of old PCs I lived off of Object-Hunting games and I loved ’em. Magic Academy 2 satisfied my craving for more of the same whilst presenting me with something different at the same time. This is the key to making a successful game series, to not forget where you started but also break the mould a little. The inclusion of mini-games and puzzles throughout really helped to bring a breath of fresh air to the object hunting genre. I particularly liked the addition of puzzles this time around as there’s nothing I like better than a good puzzle!
You can really tell that Nevosoft have taken time time to make the game as authentic as they can. By bringing script-writers, artists as well as real-life wizards on staff they’ve managed to create a magic game that plays well and reads well.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – Loading times between levels could be quicker but everything runs smooth on whatever you’ll be playing it on.
- Features (5/5) – There’s a whole lot on offer in Magic Academy 2, from varied object hunting through to spells, you’ll not to be bored, that’s for sure.
- Theme (5/5) – With detailed and vibrant backdrops, unique characters and good voice acting this feels like you’re playing through a story book than a game. Excellent theme throughout.
- Overall (4/5) – It’s a Nevosoft game, brilliant graphics with a unique storyline makes for some fantastic gaming.

Conclusion: I’ve always liked Nevosoft’s work and I think I’ll continue to do so. With Magic Academy 2 they’ve proven that they can make an old genre feel new again, at the same time without losing solid gameplay. So often game developers try to mix things up to make games new and fresh but forget about the core game in the process. I’m pleased to say that this is not the case here. I found the game to be fun, engaging and more than original. The game was also pleasantly challenging – the game didn’t lead me to pull my hair out but at the same time it didn’t let me walk through the game at a brisk pace.
It’s well worth taking a look at and also taking your time to complete as there’s a lot on offer. Once again, Nevosoft have delivered yet another quality game to us Android lovers. Go on and install the game here in the Play Store!
