Featured: HTC to Bring Us 1080p 5" Smartphone by Fall?

There’s a lot to talk about when it comes to large-screen phones, some of us love them but, others are more comfortable to stay with a 4.3″ sized device. Last year’s Galaxy Note from Samsung made waves in the industry not only due to its size but more because of the fantastic pen input that we had seen on HTC’s Flyer made perfect for an even more portable device. Now, there’s rumours that HTC are looking to enter this emerging market for massive mobiles.

DigiTimes is reporting that the Taiwanese phone maker is looking to launch a 5″ sized device that will pack a whopping 1080p resolution, including soft keys that are making their way into phones from the top manufacturers. The phone is said to be powered by the MSM8960 from Qualcomm, which we all know and love as the Snapdragon S4, clocked at 1.5 Ghz alongside an Adreno 320 GPU. That newer GPU is what will help to push that massive screen resolution. There have been benchmarks – like there always is – to back-up reports of this upcoming device on GLBenchmark which lists the OS version as 4.0.4 but, HTC will be wanting to launch it with Jelly Bean to make that Full HD resolution buttery smooth. Whether or not this is going to come with the pen support we’ve seen on the Flyer from HTC is as yet unknown but, on a device this large I’d be surprised if it isn’t included.

Apparently, HTC are looking to launch this by September/October sort of time and could well be the start of HTC rethinking their usual twice a year refresh they’ve employed in the past. Historically, phones from HTC in the second half of the year have been less flagship and more holiday season sales scooper but, with a device like this I doubt HTC will be focussing solely on holiday sales.
