It seems Apple isn’t the only tech company that’s holding an event come next month. Amazon sent an email out to the press announcing a September 6th event in Santa Monica, California. While they didn’t say what it was about, they’re about due for some new Kindles which is likely what will be talked about.
Since the Nexus 7 launched just recently, there’s been a lot of speculation as to what Amazon will do in order to compete. The Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor and 1280×800 display while the Kindle Fire, the previous top selling 7 inch tablet, had an okay dual core processor on top of Amazon’s own UI. Clearly, they need to step their game up.
And just that, it seems, they will. Last month, Staple’s President came out to say that Amazon is getting ready to launch up to 5 or 6 new Kindle Fires. The 7 inch version (available in multiple variants) will have a 1024×600 or 1280×800 display, camera, and 4G will be available in the top model. The 8.9 inch version will pack all the goodies and what seems a bit up there, will feature a 1920×800 display.
Of course there’s also a 10.1 inch version which has been talked about as well. Until Amazon’s event come September 6th, we won’t really know, however, it seems that Amazon will want to branch out into other sized tablets. The regular Kindle will also likely be getting a front-lit display in order to compete with Barnes & Noble and their Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight.
Amazon has a massive customer base that trusts them and Millions have bought the Kindle Fire. If they can roll out some rock solid, great performing new versions and sizes of the Kindle Fire, and at a great price, they may just be able to gain market share back and then some after the Nexus 7 debut.
