The future is upon us. Panasonic has announced that through near field communications, you will be able to remotely control your washing machine/dryer, air conditioning units, refrigerator, microwave oven, health care products and many other household appliances. While “smart” appliances are nothing new, with this new technology you will simply have to just tap your NFC-capable device to your appliance to gain full functionality in your pocket.
For example, lets say that you have gone out-of-town, but forgot to turn off your air conditioner to avoid skyrocketing energy bills. What ever will you do? With the Panasonic Smart App and compatible appliances, you will simply need to reach into your pocket, launch the app, and turn it off. Or maybe you just put a load of laundry in and you want to see how much time is left – just launch the app and it’ll tell you.
With this great new feature-heavy app, Panasonic is also launching their cloud server to store your appliances information. Say you tap your device to your brand new Panasonic rice cooker. Instantly, a list of suggested or recently used recipes will pop up on your phone. Need to monitor your blood pressure? Just use the Smart App and it will display a graph of information, readily available at any time.
How good does all of this sound? Unfortunately, it won’t be coming to the United States any time soon, as it is just set to launch in Japan on September 25th. Furthermore, Panasonic declined to comment on when the service will roll out globally. Until then, we play the waiting game. For more information, hit the link for the full press release.
