Featured: Pinterest finally makes its way to Android

Ah yes, the newest member of the social ecosystem, Pinterest is finally available on Android. For those of you that may happen to live under a rock and may have never heard of this site. It’s a website that allows you to pin pictures, and links. In fact you can even pin this article to your Pinterest. You also have different boards where you can sort your pins. For instance on my account I have three boards right now; Android, Technology and Cool stuff. Which are all pretty much self explanatory.

Since late 2010, Pinterest had been in beta and you had to get on a waiting list before getting access. Also the app was only available on the iPhone. So not too many people were using the site, in fact according to latest numbers in July 2012 over 80% of users in the US were female. But with this launch of apps for Android and the iPad (yeah we know many of you are not fans of Apple), this should jumpstart Pinterest into a major player in the social game with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Get Glue and Google+.

Since the app first hit the Google Play Store a few hours ago, I have been using it on my Galaxy Nexus and getting reacquainted with the service. The app is pretty stable, fluid and the UI isn’t holo but it is still clean and looks a bit like Pocket’s user interface. From the app you can add new pins from the camera, or the gallery. You can also share links and more via the “Share” menu throughout the OS and select Pinterest. It doesn’t look like you can yet add or remove your boards though. You can also repin, like and comment on your followers pins.

So what are you waiting for? Head over to Pinterest now and sign up and get to pinning! If you have any friends on the ‘other’ platform that you want to be on Pinterest, point them to apps.pinterest.com to download the appropriate app today.
